STRATEGY Blackjack For Comps Mark Pilarski, Deal Me In Dear Mark, You mention the benefits of finding the smallest minimum table limits when playing blackjack. Won't that affect my getting my fair share of comps compared to a $25 game? Jess C. Ever ride out a five-hour losing streak on a $25 game, Jess? At least on a $2 game, you can reduce your bets to that minimum and hold on for dear life. And don't worry about a $2 minimum game. Start playing those quarter chips, especially at a $2 table, and you will be noticed, and you'll get your goodies as well. Another benefit of a low table minimum: PROGRESSIVE betting, starting from a measly $2. By progressive betting, I mean laying out $2 on the front end, then betting half your winnings. For example, Bet $2, $2 again (I'm ultra-conservative), then $3, $5, $7, $10, $15, $22, $33 etc. Once you lose, go back to the table minimum and start over again. WORLD Pokemon Promotes Gambling Melanie Banks, Gambling Newsletter Saudi Arabia's Higher Committee for Scientific Research and Islamic Law issued a fatwa this past weekend banning Pokemon cards and games from the country. According to the religious edict, Pokemon cards, among other evils, have "possessed the minds" of the country's children and promoted gambling because children enjoy trading them with friends. Pokemon cards depict imaginary creatures with assorted superpowers. The object of the game is to collect as many cards as possible. Gambling is strictly forbidden by Islam. |

TRAVEL Casino Searches Jerry Florici, Gambling Newsletter Casino Searches will save travellers a lot of time searching the net for casino information. Casino Searches offers travellers a list of links to land based casino websites. The list is divided up by city, like Las Vegas or by country. The majority of listings are for North American casinos but a few international links are included too. When you've made a decision, you can book your ticket on the site through Travelocity. We found summer rates at Circus Circus, Las Vegas starting at $44 and flights from LA to LV for $60. How about 2 nights at The Venetian starting at $200 or Bally's starting at $54? Of course it always pays to shop around and Casino Searches helps speed up the process with its links. |

ENTERTAINMENT The Gambler Jerry Florici, Gambling Newsletter No, not the Kenny Roger's movie. If you're in New York this weekend, The Metropolitan Opera of New York will be performing "The Gambler", based on Dostoevsky's turbelent story of Russian expatriates staying at a grand hotel in the mythical German resort town of Roulettenberg. The story revolves around the tribulations of the gambler Alexei and his love affair with Polina, debt-ridden stepdaughter of an insolvent General. In fact, the whole family gambles! Find out what happens when Grandma arrives and hits the tables. "The Gambler" will also be performed five more times throughout this season. Full details and ticket information at The Metropolitan Opera website. |
UK Killer Whales Visit London Casino Melanie Banks, Gambling Newsletter Crockford's, an exclusive London casino, has lost over $6 million US to a group of lucky "whales" or high rollers since January this year. The big spenders often gambled over $300,000 per game at blackjack and roulette. According to the casino's owners Stanley Leisure, the winnings could put a big dent in the casino's profits. The winners' identities remain anonymous. |
TRIP REPORT Cripple Creek, Colorado I was on spring break in Colorado and I can't ski very well so I decided to check out how the gambling was in the mountains. We had a great time in Cripple Creek, about one hour drive through the mountains from Colorado Springs. It's basically a main street with about a dozen casinos. No neon, few hotels, no craps, but a hell of a lot of character. In the state no bet can exceed five dollars, but the locals find ways to skirt around that silly law. I saw one guy play every seat at a blackjack table until the dealer had twenty one two times in a row. It seems hard to win at blackjack here because once you start winning there is no way to increase your bet. Side bets like doubling and splitting are allowed. Low ball fun! They have a lot of slots, blackjack, and some poker games. They even have 99 cent shrimp cocktails. Also managed to find a 49 cent breakfast served all day which included two eggs, hash browns, toast, fruit, and a beverage. The people are so personable, which is a shock when you're from Jersey. - J.Gleason Send your trip reports to . |

EDITOR Free Gambling Resources This week, a couple people emailed me wondering where they could find more free gambling information online. Here are two resources I like: GambleUp is an online gaming and gambling search engine where you'll find anything and everything related to gaming and gambling, including casinos, bingo, lotteries, slots and more. Gamblink has gambling tips, tricks and hints, all the latest gambling-related news, plus an extension collection of casino reviews and links. Both sites are free.
