Play Slots, Lose Weight
By Melanie Banks, Gambling Newsletter

The Tropicana Casino Resort in Las Vegas has introduced the revolutionary Pedal 'n Play slot machine which combines a 25-cent slot machine with a stationary exercise bike. The slot machine only operates if the gambler pedals and gambles. Handlebar buttons control the amount of the bet and the spin of the wheel and a cup holder keeps the player's quarters.

The Pedal N Play was invented by Kathy Harris of Fairfax, Vermont. Kathy was walking through the Tropicana casino on her way to the hotel's spa when inspiration struck. Why leave the casino to exercise pondered Harris and Pedal N Play was born. The Tropicana currently has 10 Pedal N Plays in their casino. And if an unfit player has a heart attack while playing? Both the casino and Harris thought of that and have insurance.

Stratosphere Expansion
By Jerry Florici, Gambling Newsletter

The Stratosphere Casino Hotel and Tower, the US's tallest freestanding observation tower with the scariest ride on top, held a gala celebration November 3 to announce the construction of their second tower. American Superstars performers Darren Lee as Elvis, and Michael Colby as Ricky Martin made a special performance on top of the new room tower, which is scheduled to open during the summer of 2024. Michael Colby as Ricky Martin was hoisted up to the top of the topped-off tower via a construction crane in a cage while singing "La Vida Loca." After the cage was set atop the tower Colby joined Darren Lee as Elvis in a duet of "Viva Las Vegas."

The total construction budget for the 24-story tower project is $65 million. When the tower opens next summer it will include 1,002 new, luxuriously-appointed guest rooms and amenities such as a 67,000 square-foot swimming pool and recreation area on the sixth floor of the tower along with a snack bar and full-service cocktail bar.

Deuces Wild Strategies
By Gayle Mitchell, Easy Casino Gambling

Some players are reluctant to throw away five cards, but that is a most important strategy; you want to make room for additional card(s) that could be a deuce(s), and holding that ace or king is not going to help you if the next hand coming up could be four or five sevens. Here's the reason for the reluctancy.

Die hard Jacks or Better players will throw away complete hands only 3% of the time, while Deuces Wild players almost 20% of the time. That's nearly every fifth hand.

Do not keep two pairs. Select one or the other, as 3-of-a-kind is the minimum scheduled payout.

Inside straights should be held, if presenting the best possible return from your initial five cards dealt. Therefore, a 5, 6, 8, 9 hand can produce a 7 or wild card in this VP version.

The Future of Online Sportsbetting
By Carl-William TovÄs, Gamblers Domain

TRIP REPORT
Stardust and More

Dear Steve,

I just returned from a weekend stay in Las Vegas. I went with a group of friends to help celebrate one person's 40th birthday.I stayed at the Stardust in the tower. The room was $99 a night and well worth it. Very clean and quite spacious.

I saw several shows while I was there. I took in the new Men are From Mars Women are From Venus revue at the Flamingo, as well as the afternoon burlesque show there, Bottoms Up. It bills itself as the only topless afternoon show in Las Vegas. It was quite crowded for a Saturday afternoon show. My favorite show was The Rat Pack is Back at the Sahara in the Conga Room. Immediately upon entering the showroom you are transported back in time to 1962. It's Frank's birthday and Dean, Sammy and Joey are there to help celebrate the occasion with the requisite wine, women and song.

The best part of going to see these great shows is that it limited my time at the tables so when I did play I got the most enjoyment out of it and playing for short periods of time enabled me to walk away with money. A good time was had by all. - G. Tallman

I'm Getting Hungry!

Over the past few weeks I've received quite a few emails from readers letting me know where to find the best buffets in Las Vegas. I'll be publishing these comments in a coming issue. Casino Player magazine ran an article in their latest issue which said that Le Village Buffet at Paris, Las Vegas "stands out above all the others." I stayed at Paris a few months ago but neglected to do the buffet. Has anyone tried it? As always, I would love to hear your comments!

Your editor, Steve Johnson, .

See you next week!
