TOP NEWS Betting On the Presidential Race It's a close race for the next president of The United States according to Intertops.com. Polls show a dead heat between candidates Bush and Gore. Intertops has listed Bush as the favorite at 4/5 (i.e., win 4 dollars to every 5 dollars bet), with Gore right on his tail at 20/21. Both Ralph Nader (500/1) and Pat Buchanan (1,000/1) are listed, though, as clear long shots. |
SLOTS New Jeopardy! Slot Machine By Melanie Banks, Gambling Newsletter The brand new multi-line Jeopardy! slot machine hits Vegas casinos this week. Based on the popular TV show, the new nickel slots features voiceovers by host Alex Trebek and announcer Johnny Gilbert, and the authentic Jeopardy music. The MegaJackpot Instant Winner progressive jackpot is won when five Jeopardy! symbols land on the ninth payline with maximum coins bet. The MegaJackpot builds from a base amount of $100,000 and is paid instantly, upon verification of the jackpot. And Mikohn Gaming Corp announced BATTLESHIP, a new nine-line, five-reel video slot format with a maximum play of up to 90 nickels. In addition to the fun of the base game, players have the opportunity to test their skill and luck, as well as win more money, with three special bonus games. When awarded, the BATTLESHIP Bonus Game lets players fire eight missiles with the objectives of destroying an enemy fleet of four ships of various sizes concealed within an ocean grid, similar to that of the traditional board game. |
SPORTS Larry Holmes On Gambling By Chuck Greene, WINNERonline.com Former heavyweight champion and current online casino owner Larry Holmes talks about Internet gambling, boxing, politics and more in this exclusive, wide-ranging interview! WINNERONLINE - How did you get involved in the online casino business? LARRY HOLMES - [My manager] Jay Newman hooked me into it. We knew that online gambling was illegal here in the States so we wanted to go offshore with it. We have some people that we partnered with and we're offshore with that but we're still not allowing betting not only at the sportsbook but gambling period from the United States. WINNERONLINE - Do you gamble on sports? LARRY HOLMES - I don't gamble on sports. With a friend of mine or two I might bet on a fight or something like that. I'll tell you what, I'm probably the lousiest picker out there because every time I've bet on a fight, I've lost. So I don't bet on fights any more but I go see fights. I don't bet on any sports but I'm a blackjack player. Read the full interview at WINNERonline.com |

TRIP REPORT Luxor Hotel & Casino My wife and I recently returned from our trip to Vegas. We stayed at Luxor as that is our favorite place to stay because we can cover the whole south end of the strip. And with the great convenience of the MGM/Bally's monorail system, we can head down to the middle of the strip in no time. If you've never been there, Luxor is an awesome place. With all the restaurants there, and the great staff, (as we have never had the first problem) you can't go wrong. If it's an awesome strip view you're after, ask for the east tower east side. Or, you can get a great view of their beautiful swimming pool from a room in the pyramid. And by the way, when they leave a light on for you, you can see it from miles away. -M. Greene Send your trip reports to . If we publish your report you'll receive a certificate for 2 nights free accommodation redeemable at a number of U.S. destinations. Some blackout periods and other restrictions apply, but it's free! |

EDITOR Back from the Expo I'm back from a week in my favorite city, Las Vegas, a couple of hundred bucks richer -- even though I lost a hundred on the Tyson fight. (I know, you told me so!) I watched the too-short fight at the new Aladdin with a couple of friends. What's with the air conditioning in that place? Everywhere I went it felt as though it would blow my toupee off! You won't catch me staying there, or gambling there for that matter. But I may well return for their excellent buffet which featured crab legs and other seafood, Italian and Middle Eastern foods ($18.99). Speaking of buffets, I'd sure like to hear from anyone who has discovered "the ultimate" buffet in Las Vegas so I can pass that info on to our readers. But back to my Las Vegas report. My main reason for visiting Las Vegas was to attend the World Gaming Expo. It's a massive show featuring all sorts of casino and gambling companies. I tried out the new Austin Powers slot machine and found it pretty darn amusing. Alex Trebek was on-hand to launch the new Jeopardy! slots. I didn't have the pleasure of seeing Alex but did spot pro wrestler Sid Vicious at the show, and magicians Penn and Teller were on my flight out of Seattle. I stayed at the Monte Carlo and, overall, give it the thumbs up. The rooms aren't that big or fancy, and the casino is a little smallish, but the dealers were friendly and the location (next to Bellagio) is prime. Not as good as the Paris, but still pretty good. Your editor, Steve Johnson, . See you next week! |
