Wheel of Fortune Pays $1.6 Million

Grandmother Jo-Ann B. Antonucci of Rhode Island had been playing a one-dollar Wheel of Fortune slot machine at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut for more than 2 hours on Saturday when she suddenly got very lucky. Very lucky indeed. "My husband made me play this machine," Antonucci said. "I was hoping for a spin of the wheel." What she got was a whopping $1.6 million jackpot! Mrs. Antonucci and her husband, Gus, had come to Foxwoods to see a friend perform at the Intermezzo Nite Club.

Antonucci doesn't think her life really will be affected by her win. She wants to use the money for her two children and her grandchildren's education.

NEW ORLEANS
Man Robs Harrah's
By Jerry Florici, Gambling Newsletter

The New Orleans police are looking for a man accused of robbing Harrah' Casino Sunday night. It's believed he stole about $64,000.

According to WDSU NewsChannel 6, a man walked up to a teller's window with two coin buckets over one hand. He claimed to have a weapon, then took the money and walked out of the casino. Despite numerous video cameras that caught the crime on tape, the suspect remains at large.

How to Play 5-Card Stud
By Max Drayman, WINNERonline

5-Card Stud is one of those games that puzzles people. Whenever you mention it people say something like "you mean 7-Card Stud?" or "how's that different than Draw Poker?" But 5-Card Stud is a game unto itself although you'll seldom see it played these days. There are a few good reasons for that, but let's cover the basics first.

SLOTS
First Addams Family MegaJackpot
By Melanie Banks, Gambling Newsletter

A Las Vegas woman became Nevada's first winner of an Addams Family MegaJackpot Monday evening at the recently opened Suncoast Casino. The Addams Family is one of the new generation of themed, multi-lined MegaJackpot slots.

Asking to be identified only as Debbie R., the winner walked away with a check for $278,423 on the instant pay video slot game. Debbie often bowls at other Coast Resort properties, so she decided to "check out" the Suncoast, which opened Sept. 12. She said that she had invested $50 in the nickel machine and was down to her last $10 when she hit the jackpot. She says she plans to share her good fortune with her family and use it to make dreams come true.

ATLANTIC CITY
New Mega Resort Under Construction
By Melanie Banks, Gambling Newsletter

A new mega resort is under way in Atlantic City. The billion dollar Borgata, which takes inspiration from classical Italian architecture, will be Atlantic City's biggest resort when complete. It's a joint effort between the Boyd Gaming Corp and the MGM Mirage. Borgata will include a 122,000-square-foot casino, 11 restaurants, a jazz club, and a 3,000-seat theatre. The focus of Borgata will be on entertainment, gaming, dining and its luxury spa.

TRIP REPORT
Barbary Coast and Bellagio

I and four friends just returned from Vegas where we stayed at the Barbary Coast. Although the casino needs a "facelift" and is quite smoky, the Victorian rooms are very clean, quiet and the beds were wonderful. Its location makes it a great value -- connected by overhead walkways to Bally's & Paris on one corner, Bellagio on another corner and Ceasar's on the other corner, and it's next door to the Flamingo. You can also catch a shuttle from the Barbary Coast to the Orleans and soon to the new Suncoast Casino. It is a comfortable walking distance to the new Aladdin and the Venetian.

Dinner reservations were made at Olives (inside Bellagio) to celebrate birthdays and the U.S. citizenship of one in our party. We were seated on the terrace balcony overlooking the Bellagio lake and fountain show. What an experience! I had viewed the show from street level before but from this location you actually feel like you are a part of them. And, when the fountains performed the Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman duet, "Time To Say Goodbye", it was so moving it brought one in our party to tears. The Italian cuisine was superb and the presentation is beyond description! Truly a memorable experience.

The slots were especially friendly for us at the Venetian and the Flamingo. Our favorites of the new slots were Monkey Business, I Dream of Jeannie, Easy Street and Texas Tea. Of course, I'm still partial to the Double Down Poker at the Orleans which didn't disappoint me.

In case you're still wondering, I had a wonderful time! -- Mickey and pals

A friend of mine booked a three night stay in New York this week. She spent hours looking for the best deals on the Internet and ultimately found the best prices at www.hoteldiscounts.com. So you might want to check that site out the next time you comparison shop for hotel prices. Right now I see they're offering Las Vegas hotel rooms as low as 29 bucks.
