TOP NEWS Tourist Killed in Vegas Shooting A Las Vegas tourist was killed last week by a stray bullet from a robbery suspect, according to an Associated Press report. The incident occurred at Harrah's on the Strip. The robbery suspect shot a guard as police officers tried to handcuff him and fired another round that struck the victim, a 29 year old woman from Maui. It was the second fatal shooting in a Las Vegas Strip casino this year. In February, a 56 year old man was shot in the chest, allegedly by an acquaintance, in the Stardust casino's sportsbook. |

ROULETTE When to Bet on Black By Mark Pilarski, http://www.dealmein.org Dear Mark: Is there any merit to a system in roulette where if red appears three times in a row, you then bet black? The same would hold true with the odd/even wager on the game. Ted D. Sacramento, CA None Ted, and these three words are the reason: "independent trials process." Mathematicians use this expression to describe random games that are not influenced by past outcomes, nor influenced by future performance. The spin and bounce of the roulette ball is a perfect example of a random event, in that every slot in the wheel has exactly the same chance that the ball will lodge there. Neither slot nor ball knows that red appeared last, nor that black will be the next color called. None of the tools of gambling (roulette ball, cards, dice) has either memory or consciousness. They are inanimate tools of the trade that cannot make choices. All but the Queen of Spade -- if she winks at you. Get more expert tips from Mark at http://www.dealmein.org |
ONLINE Be an "Advantage" Gambler By Spearmaster, http://www.got2bet.com It's one thing to visit a casino, drop a few bucks and call it entertainment money. It's another thing entirely when you go in armed with all the information you need to win -- and still call it entertainment. When you play games that involve decision-making on your part, especially blackjack and video poker, there's no restriction as to having cheat sheets when playing online, so take full advantage of this to get the most out of your online gambling experience. Blackjack is well-known for being essentially "beatable" -- that is to say, using the correct strategy can not only negate the house advantage, but in some cases even give you an advantage over the house. TRIP REPORT The New Aladdin My husband and I just returned from a trip to our favorite city. We decided to try out the new Aladdin Hotel/Casino. Were we disappointed!!!! I found the slot machines crowding one another (if 2 people were sitting in chairs opposite to one another there was no room for me to slip past without bumping them), the machines were set in both straight and slanted rows, causing you to easily get lost among them and the casino was SMOKEY and STUFFY beyond belief. Another bad experience was the Valet Parking. We turned our ticket into the valet and crossed the street to get our car. Chaos ensued. Unlike most other casinos, Aladdin has both taxi cabs and valet in the same location, causing traffic jams and angry drivers. After a 20 minute wait I walked back across the street to ask the Valet what happened to our car. His RUDE response was "I told you it was going to take 15-20 minutes lady, other people were before you, go back over there (he pointed) and wait." Nice customer service huh?? The Aladdin gets a definite THUMBS DOWN in my opinion, and we will not be returning. -- K.&G. F., Illinois Send your trip reports to . If we publish your report you'll receive a certificate for 2 nights free accommodation redeemable at a number of U.S. destinations. Some blackout periods and other restrictions apply, but it's free! |
