Man Wins a Million at Morongo

A Placentia, California man scored the jackpot of a lifetime in the early hours of Saturday morning, July 22, when he won more than a million dollars at Casino Morongo, a casino operated by the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.

One of the biggest Indian gaming jackpots in California history -- $1,045,906.45 -- was won by retired industrial chemical salesman Tom Simanton. He won while playing Morongo Millions, a progressive video game.

"I love him a million more ways now," exclaimed his wife.

"She's got a strange look in her eyes like she wants to go to Nordstroms," said Simanton.

CRAPS
Guaranteed Craps System?
By Max Drayman, http://www.winneronline.com

Dear Max: I have seen a system to roll the dice and have a 7 come up less then it should. It's guarenteed for 6 months. What do you think?

I'm a pretty conservative guy when it comes to systems in general, and especially so with those that claim to modify the basic odds of card or dice games. The short answer to your question is that the probability of coming up 7 on any given toss is about 16.7%, period. The only way to change that is to manipulate or modify the dice in some way and that's cheating. At best it'll get you bounced out on your ear. At worst, you'll be in no position to go back and claim your refund on the guarantee.

Here's what I'd suggest: if the "expert" is so sure about his system, get him to give you a 30 day no-charge trial run. If at the end of the 30 days you're happy and still walking, pay him in full. If not, you've paid him what I strongly suspect the system is worth: zip!

BLACKJACK
When to Surrender
By Mark Pilarski, http://www.dealmein.org

Dear Mark: What is the correct strategy for surrender in blackjack? Also, what is the difference between early and late surrender?

Some casinos offer you the ability to waive the white flag (surrender) after viewing your first two cards. You lose half your bet in return for not having to play a crummy hand. With early surrender, you get back half your bet even if the dealer has a blackjack. With late surrender you would lose (the whole bet as opposed to just half of it) if the dealer had blackjack. Follow these three simple rules with respect to surrender if your favorite casino offers it. 1) Surrender a hard 16 (but not 8-8) versus a 9, 10, ace. 2) Surrender a hard 15 against a 10. 3) Surrender a hard 15 opposite an ace.

VEGAS
Hotel Snapshots
By Heidi Robbins for Gambling Newsletter

A few observations from Heidi on her recent trip to Las Vegas:

New York, New York - "Think New York, but smaller. Overcrowded, overpriced, filled with children at every turn, yet, it was wonderful!"

Bellagio - "If you like gambling, in a library, then go here. The place was so quiet it was unnerving."

Riviera - "The place was fairly run-down and cheap looking, like they needed to remodel it desperately but didn't have the money."

Paris - "Eiffel Tower, aside, the place will dazzle you inside as well as out. I would love to stay at this place someday."

Why Gamble Online?
By Spearmaster, http://www.got2bet.com

Many of you have already experienced the unparalleled excitement of gambling in a real casino - whether it be Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Biloxi, Monte Carlo, Macau or anywhere else in the world. There is simply no equal. Some people make it a regular journey - monthly, weekly - in my case yearly to Vegas.

Comps are a big part of these journeys for some - I have only had to pay for one hotel night out of 21 in the past three years, and all during the COMDEX convention when it is impossible to get a hotel room, let alone get comped - but most important is the sheer excitement - the roar of a crowd at a hot craps table - the screams when jackpots are hit - pretty cocktail waitresses practically begging to get you a drink - pigging out at the buffets - I could go on and on and never completely describe the unique sensation of timelessness and adrenaline.

So what in the world would cause you to gamble online?
