BLACKJACK The Cheating Dealer By Steve Johnson, Gambling Newsletter I have often suspected blackjack dealers of cheating me but never caught one in the act -- until this past weekend. Two in the morning, Saturday night, I pull up to a ten buck table at Paris Las Vegas. I'm betting $20 a hand, 4 nickels, when I spot the cheating move. Here's how it works: The player to my left lost the hand. I pushed. After the dealer collected the losing player's chips he tapped the table beside my chips to indicate "push". Then as he swept his hand across my stack he smoothly grabbed one chip off the top, blending in with the other chips he had in his hand, and leaving me one chip short. It was a slick move. When I pointed out to the dealer that he took one of my chips, that I had four chips on the stack, he coolly replied, "I'll take your word for it," and replaced my chip. The moral of the story: Never trust a blackjack dealer and ALWAYS watch your chips. |

ENTERTAINMENT Betting on "Survivor" By Jerry Florici, Gambling Newsletter With over 20 million people tuning in each week, CBS's "Survivor" has quickly become a pop culture phenomena and viewers everywhere are speculating what castaway will leave Pulau Tiga with the $1 million grand prize. Realizing that the anticipation of millions grows each week as another castaway is eliminated, Intertops.com became the first established bookmaker to accept wagers on who will be the $1 million winner on the television series. Intertops.com has listed Richard, the 39-year-old Corporate Trainer from Newport, Rhode Island as the early favorite to take home the $1 million dollar prize, currently listing him at 5/2 odds (i.e., win $5 for every $2 bet). Intertops.com also feels that Rudy, the retired Navy Seal (3/1) and Kelly, the river guide from Las Vegas (4/1) have what it takes to endure the 39-day version of "Gilligan's Island" for the new millennium. Odds are subject to change. For current odds go to http://www.intertops.com |

Paris LV Trip Report
Last weekend was my first stay at the magnificent Paris Las Vegas hotel-casino and I was thoroughly impressed. My "standard" room was acceptably spacious, with a huge bathroom and a spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower. (Okay, so it wasn't the real Eiffel Tower, but it was still pretty awesome!) I could even see the Bellagio water show from my window. The pool was fantastic and I found the service to be extremely friendly, what with all the "bonjours," "mercis" and so forth. Tip: If you stay at Bally's next door you will save a few bucks and still get access to the Paris pool. Gambling at Paris is another story. I didn't find any video poker machines with a decent paytable, nor did I see any high-payout slots. Add to that the little blackjack incident I mentioned above and my recommendation is: Stay at Paris but gamble elsewhere. Try Harrah's 98% slots a couple doors down if you're a slots player. Your editor, Steve Johnson, . See you next week! |
